The Akropong School for the Blind is located in the eastern region of Ghana.
It was establish in August, 1945 with four students and currently has a student population of about 375.
The school has many departments including the Music Department, Vocational Department, Adult Rehabilitation and runs the normal curriculum provided by the Ghana Education Service i.e. KG, Primary 1 to 6 and JHS 1 to 3 and take part in the Basic Education Certificate Examination [BECE] conducted by the West Africa Examination Council [WAEC].
Just like their seeing counterparts across the country, students of the Akropong School for the Blind in their quest to climb high the academic ladder are confronted with numerous challenges in the form of Equipment, Braille Papers, White Canes, Scanners, Braille Embossers, Textbooks, UPS, Computers and it’s accessories just but to mention a few.
A team from Keep Them Smiling, a non-governmental organization [NGO] with its aim of helping the vulnerable visited the school to undertake a Needs Assessment drive in order to help provide some of these facilities lacking in the school.
A visit by the Keep Them Smiling team to the Information Communication Technology [ICT] (IT), Centre of the school where the visually impaired students are taught how to use the computer and its related accessories had some challenges of non-functioning computers, braille embossers used for the printing of examination papers for the students, headphones, etc.
Interacting with the students and facilitators of the centre this is what they told the team.
The team proceeded to the vocational and catering department of the school where the finished works of the students were displayed.
These wares ranged from doormats, liquid soaps, detergents, centre tables and other household furniture.
Enumerating some of the challenges faced by the department, the instructor indicated how difficult it is to come by raw materials such as sea grass used for teaching the student how to weave.
An interview with some of the students of the vocational department revealed how urgent they needed help.
These are some of the views expressed.
The next point of call for the team was at the musical department.
[Music they say is food for the soul], In our interaction with the head of the music department, he catalogued a number of problems inhibiting the department such as, microphones, guitars, set of drums, local instruments like 'Konka', 'Atimevuu'
The students on the other hand added their voices to validate what they were told by the team from Keep Them Smiling Foundation.
These were some of the opinions expressed.

Students of the Akropong School for the Blind after a hard day’s work enjoyed themselves by engaging in all forms of fun activities including, football, sea saw, 'Ampe' a local Ghanaian game played by girls exhibiting how important it is to keep fit at all time.
In conclusion the head mistress of the school expressed her gratitude to the team from 'Keep Them Smiling' for the visit to the school and conducting needs assessment of the students.

De Akropong School for the Blind (voor de blinden) staat in het oosterse regio van Ghana.
Het was gevestigd in Augustus, 1945 met vier studenten en heeft momenteel een studenten populatie van ongeveer 375.
De school heeft veel afdelingen inclusief de Muziek Afdeling, Beroepsafdeling, Rehabilitatie van Volwassenen en heeft een normale leerplan die gegeven word door de Ghana Education Service i.e. KG, Basisschool 1 tot 6 en lagere middelbare school 1 to 3 en neemt deel an de Basic Education Certificate Examination [BECE] uitgevoerd door de West Africa Examination Council [WAEC].
Net als hun ziende tegenhangers rondom in het land, studenten van de Akropong School for the Blind (voor de blinden) in hun missie om de hoge academische ladder te klimmen zijn ze geconfronteerd met vele uitdagingen in de vorm van Apparatuur, Braillepapieren, Blindenstokken, Scanners, Braille Embossers, Testboeken, UPS, Computers en hun accessoires om een paar te noemen.
Een team van Keep Them Smiling (Houd ze aan het Lachen), een niet-gouvernementele organisatie [NGO] met zijn doel van het helpen van de kwetsbaar bezocht de school met een aandrijving voor behoefteevaluatie om help te geven met sommigen faciliteiten die gebrek hebben in de school.
Een bezoek van de Keep Them Smiling (Houd ze aan het Lachen) team aan de Informatie en Communicatie Technologie [ICT] centrum van de school waar de slecht ziende studenten leren hoe ze een computer en hun accessoires had problemen met niet functionerende computers, braille embossers die gebruikt worden voor het printen van test papieren voor de studenten, koptelefoons, etc.
Na interactie met de studenten en de facilitatoren van de centrum zeiden ze dit.
De team ging daarna naar de beroepsopleiding en catering afdelingen van de school waar complete producten van de studenten waren te zien.
Deze producten varieerden van deurmatten, vloeibare zepen, schoonmaakmiddelen, middel tafel en andere huismeubilair.
Na een opsomming van enkele uitdagingen voor de afdeling, de instructeur gaf aan hoe moeilijk het is om aan materialen to komen zo als zeegras om studenten te leren om te weven.
Een interview met sommige studenten van het beroepsafdeling lieten zien hoe noodzakelijk ze hulp nodig hadden.
Dit zijn een paar van de meningen die zijn verwoord.
De volgende locatie voor het team was de musicale afdeling.
[Muziek is eten voor het ziel zeggen ze], In onze interactie met de hoof van de muziek afdeling, hij categorieeden een aantal problemen die de afdeling had zoals, microfoon, gitaren, drum sets, lokale instrumenten zoals 'Konka', 'Atimevuu'.
De studenten aan de andere kant voegde hun worden toe om te valideren wat werd verteld aan de team van Keep Them Smiling (Houd ze aan het Lachen) Stichting.
Dit waren paar van de meningen die werden gegeven.
'Altijd maar werken en geen spel maakt van Jack een saaie jongen'.
Studenten van de Akropong school for the Blind (voor de blinden) na een lange dag van harde werk vermaken hunzelf met allerlei leuke activiteiten inclusief, voetbal, wip, 'Ampe' een lokale Ghanaian spel gespeeld door meisjes die laten zien hoe belangrijk het is om alle tijden fit the blijven.
In conclusie de hoofdmeesteres sprak uit haar dankbaarheid naar de team van 'Keep Them Smiling' (Houd ze aan het Lachen) voor de bezoek aan de school en het uitvoeren van behoefteevaluatie van de studenten.
Dit is wat ze had te zeggen.
